THE SURE FOUNDATION
Whenever We prepare to build a home, we always seek a solid foundation because we recognize the truthfulness of the statement that a house is no stronger than its foundation. We should be just as careful of the foundation of our spiritual house because a strong spiritual house cannot be built unless it is built upon the solid foundation of Christ our Lord.
In concluding the sermon on the mount, Jesus said, “Wherefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man which built his house upon a rock; And the rain descended, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.” Then he further stressed the importance of hearing and doing by saying, “And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand, And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house: and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” (Matt.7:24-27). What was the
difference between these two men? Both
heard the same thing; both took action, but the difference was in the kind of action that they took. One heard Jesus’ sayings and obeyed; the
other heard but failed to obey. Jesus
said that the one who obeyed was compared to a man who built his house upon a
solid rock, and the one who did not obey was like a man building a house on the
sand. We need to think about this matter
seriously, and plan our lives accordingly.
Our spiritual house will determine our eternal destiny. You and I are building our spiritual house
day by day. We are either building it
upon Christ, the solid foundation, or upon the world, which is only sand that
will fade away. To build your spiritual
house upon Christ, you must hear the gospel, The
apostle Paul said in Rom.
