In Ephesians 5, beginning with verse 14, the apostle Paul says, “Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.  See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”

Have you ever considered what a wonderful work the children of God could do if all would awake to the opportunities that surround us and the responsibilities that are ours?  While the world is lost in sin and ignorance of God, we have little thought of actually getting out and taking the gospel to them.  We attend the worship services when nothing else interferes, and then, like King Saul, we say “Behold, I have obeyed the voice of the Lord!”

What plans have you made to teach the gospel of Christ to your friends?  What are you doing that would cause them to want to be Christians?  Do you exhibit a cheerful countenance, or do your friends and neighbors get the impression that serving the Lord on Sunday is a chore that is unpleasant but one that must be endured?

Without vision, we will perish, because if we aim at nothing, nothing is what we will accomplish.  Therefore, let us lift our eyes toward heaven, set our hearts on reaching that eternal home and taking as many as possible with us.

And, let us not wait until tomorrow to begin.  Paul says, “…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Cor.6:24).  Heaven awaits only those who really strive to reach it.  Jesus said, “…strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matt. 7:14).
