DONíT FEED THE ANIMALS
††††††††† It is common knowledge that a fire will go out if fuel is withheld; however, if we want a fire to burn, all we have to do is to keep it well supplied with fuel.
††††††††† Pride, jealousy, and lust are just like the fire.† The fastest possible way to overcome these is to cease to feed them.† In Proverbs 8:13, pride is one of the things that the Lord says that he hates.† Arrogance and pride cause one to be disliked by his fellowmen.† If we cannot like such a person, how must God feel toward him?† The proud† and arrogant act as though they do not need anyone or anything.† God is usually the furthermost thing from their minds.† Let us develop humility that there might be room in our hearts for God.
††††††††† Jealousy is likewise a destroyer of souls.† Where there is jealousy, there is strife.† Where there is strife, God does not dwell.† And, there has never been a greater destroyer of body and soul than lust.† Listen to what James says about lust:† ďBut every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed.† Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.Ē (Jas.l:14,15).† Therefore, all moral sins are preceded by lust.† Let us be careful that we do not feed this lustóneither our own nor that of someone else.† We feed our own lust by dwelling upon evil.† We may cause others to lust by our manner of life.† We can refrain from feeding our own lust by filling our minds and our lives with purity.† This same thing will keep us from causing others to lust.
††††††††† Do you want heaven to be your home when life is ended?† Then donít feed these animal passions!† The Christian who is busy serving God has little interest in satisfying the carnal nature.
